Renegade RV has been building premium Super C motorhomes since 1997. When they decided to offer LiquidSpring® Smart Suspension™ on their Veracruz models, the choice was straightforward: pair the best coaches with the best suspension.
“When you get down to the Renegade part, we are a premium brand,” says Chris Cook, Director of Sales at Renegade. “And when they pair that with the premium suspension of the LiquidSpring, it makes sense. Premium coach with premium suspension.”
The Super C Pioneers Choose Smart Suspension
Renegade RV founder Chuck McKibben had a specific vision: build bulletproof motorhomes for race car drivers who needed to focus on their vehicles, not their RVs. That utilitarian philosophy—choosing the $400 water heater over the $200 model because it won’t fail—still guides every decision at Renegade nearly 30 years later.
When Renegade selected LiquidSpring for their Ford F-550-based Veracruz models, the decision wasn’t made lightly. The goal was to find the best, from grille to tailpipe. Cook explains. “We went through and vetted the process. What did we want to do? And we eventually just decided, let’s get in with LiquidSpring.”
Built for Adventure, Engineered for Comfort
Built on a Ford F-550 chassis, the Veracruz offers floor plans ranging from 30’5″ to 32’5″—compact enough for state park access while maintaining the space full-time RVers need.
Inside, Renegade’s commitment to quality is evident. Solid hardwood maple cabinetry with sanded dovetail drawers and solid-surface countertops throughout set the Veracruz apart from competitors using laminate or plastic finishes. “It’s real wood all the way through,” Cook emphasizes. “It’s not plastic… It’s a premium brand.”

The Veracruz comes equipped for serious off-grid capability with an 8kW diesel generator, automatic generator start, 3,000W true sine wave inverter, and a 400Ah lithium battery system expandable to 1,200Ah. Combined with LiquidSpring’s Tru-Earth Leveling® system, dual-pane windows, and a lateral-arm awning, the Veracruz delivers both the comfort and independence adventure-focused RVers demand.
This all-weather design philosophy extends to every system in the coach, making the Veracruz equally capable whether you’re parked at a full-hookup site or boondocking in remote locations.
Performance That Sells Itself
Wayne Wells, LiquidSpring’s RV Sales Representative, puts the suspension through test drives at RV shows. “Usually in the first 40 feet, a customer is going to look over at you and go, ‘Oh, now I know what you’re talking about,'” Wells explains. “Truly, one of the comments you’ll get back after a while is, ‘I don’t even know that I have 30 feet of motorhome behind me. It feels like I’m driving my standard passenger car or truck.'”
The ride quality comparison surprised even Cook. “I would venture to guess our Renegade with LiquidSpring drives as good or better than [my] F-150 pickup,” he says. “Which is scary.”
Addressing the Investment Question
The most common objection to LiquidSpring is cost—a premium suspension system adds significantly to an already substantial RV investment. But Renegade’s customer base already understands value over price.
“They know what they’re getting when they buy the Renegade,” Cook notes. “They’re already spending serious money for what we sell. And when they pair that with the premium suspension and you talk them through it and then get them into the seat for the test drive, it’s like, ‘Okay, this makes sense now. This makes sense why we’re doing this.'”
The suspension’s impact extends beyond ride quality. The physics are straightforward. “The less impact you put into the coach, the longer the coach is going to last,” Wells explains.
Wells’s own experience backs this up. He put over 40,000 miles on a Renegade Veracruz equipped with LiquidSpring in a single year. The required maintenance? Armrests and mirrors. “That’s it,” Cook confirms. “That’s the life of an RV for some users over five, six, seven years.”
Driving Like a Minivan, Built Like a Tank

The utilitarian approach Wells appreciates in Renegade coaches directly supports the suspension’s performance. “I like the utilitarianism of the Renegade because it doesn’t have some of the bling that some of the other coaches have, but that’s also why it’s quieter,” Wells says. “There isn’t as much stuff to rattle and fall off. That’s one of the big selling features of a Renegade-type coach.”
This design philosophy extends throughout the vehicle. Walk into any Renegade, from their entry-level models around $200,000 to their $750,000 flagship coaches, and you’ll find the same premium cabinetry and attention to detail.
The Driver Fatigue Factor
For full-time RVers or those covering serious distances, comfort becomes a safety issue. “Driver fatigue is a big, big deal,” Cook notes. “If you’re comfortable driving the coach and you’re not fighting going down the road after three, four, five hours—whatever your trip takes out of you—it’s a huge part of it.”
Wells frames it simply: “That’s truly what our suspension does. It gives the driver and passenger a much better experience. You’re not taking all those impacts up into your body from what’s going on. We’re absorbing that energy before it gets into the cockpit.”
The Future of Premium Performance
Both companies see potential for expanding their collaboration. “There’s other things we want to do together,” Wells notes. “Hopefully some of that’s coming down the pipeline.”
For now, the message is consistent: when you build premium coaches designed to last, you pair them with suspension systems built to the same standard. The decision-making process that led to spending 30 minutes on a cabinet placement is the same one that led Renegade RV to LiquidSpring.
